I just realized the version of “Strange Ways” on Spotify is the horrible US version, why??
It’s also known as the refined version, released on later pressings of the European one too. What don’t you like about it?
I only recently discovered that there’s a dancier version of Cruel Summer than the version I heard on the radio here in Canada in the summer of 1998. To my ears the version I heard in my youth is more similar to Bananarama’s original. Which version is considered the definitive version?
The dance one came first, and was the single version in Europe (excl. UK). Clive Davis commissioned the Cutfather & Joe R&B mix for North America.

Ah well that explains it. Which version was the single in the UK?
Technically it was the C&J mix, but the Euro mix video got some airplay and they performed it on CD:UK. Both were on the single.

Probably that I’m so used to the European version, the new intro is better, but the extended outro is quite pointless.
I always assumed it was the Big Bonus Mix the main version in all of Europe (well, except in France I guess), good to know.

I almost certainly encountered @AcerBen and @acer4ever in one of the early Ace of Base fan forums way back when. Could not for the life of me recall what my username must have been.
That said, I did get Life is a Flower on import CD months and months before the US version of Flowers was announced. And I recall Claes(?) from Mega Records asking for feedback on Cruel Summer and which version they should use as the single! I loved the French single version with Alliage - and trying to watch a potato-quality capture of the video on a dial-up modem. Glad to see it’s on YouTube in much higher quality. I think that it was the same director who did much of Aqua’s videos?

ATSW and LID are way too low but absolutely bonkers that more people liked the bland Cutfather remix to the Big Bonus remix.
