I’ve noticed I can’t post gifs in PMs until I reach level 4. I recently got a notification saying I was now at level 2, so was wondering if I’m missing a thread where this is explained. I have tried so apologies if I can’t see the forest for the trees.
The Trust Levels are explained in the Discourse FAQs but level 4 is by invite only anyway. Regardless, you CAN send images and gifs in PMs the same way you can in posts - they have to be hosted on another site, and when you attach them to your text body, make sure you are copying and pasting the URL to the image, not the image itself. (A trick, if you are on mobile, if you click and hold an image and click Copy Image, paste that into your browsers search bar to get the url, and then you can copy and paste the url into your message.)

I seem to be able to upload images in a reply now?
Edit: yep, image above was directly uploaded and not pasted from an image hosting site

I’ve noticed the upload image icon is gone now (used to be bottom right next to the gif button). If that is a deliberate restriction I’m not in favour of that kind of us and them positioning - it was a problem on the last place and I hoped it would be left there.

Most places will not want you to use their forum for image hosting.
For both database size issues and for content restrictions.

Just crossposting what @boombazookajoe pointed out since it’s being discussed in here, but removing the image upload for posts means we also can’t update profile pictures. Wonder if they can be differentiated somehow in terms of user accesses?
