Iconic!
So sad Primary Wave stopped issueing the deluxe editions of her albums. I wanted more.
Ah, Olivia. A very special figure in the history of pop music. I have never loved a voice the way I do hers.
This year, we have the the Netflix documentary film to look forward to. Hopefully we continue to get some archival performances preserved on Olivia’s official YouTube channel, too.
Lovely to see an Olivia thread again. She really was one of the most underrated artists of all time, one of the holy trinity alongside Donna and Diana when it came to Queens of 70s and early 80s music. In fact, you could say that Olivia really was the Queen Of Pop or at least crossover Pop long before Shania or later Sabrina would also come along and do the very same. She led the way and yet never seems to get her due. Except on here thankfully!
Not only my favourite Dame Olivia song, but one of the best singles of the 80s period.
I’m forever bitter we were robbed the follow-up album to Physical which would’ve featured the amazing GH2 & Two Of A Kind songs. I hate that they were wasted on a compilation and a soundtrack!
When I first got into Olivia I assumed she would have lots more songs like Twist of Fate and Livin’ In Desperate Times - sadly I was in for a disappointment! A mid 80s album featuring more synthpop bops like those would have been amazing.
I enjoy Soul Kiss for what it is. But come 1985, it was not the big pop album Olivia needed to compete with Madonna and Cyndi or to rival Tina and Aretha’ MTV era comebacks.
