Tremolo is GREAT on first listen.
I was mixed on Crush Forever â so propulsive! but that bridge, ugh â and her vocals and cadence on Tremolo, to me, sound like Taylor Swift (derogatory). I hope I find something redeeming here.
Metric were my favorite band in high school (shout out to the Metric Forum), perhaps when I didnât know any better, and I feel deep cringe revisiting their stuff. Maybe Iâm being unfair!
Not cringe!! That is unfair! Which albums?
Great album, I think I like it much more then the last two already with my first few listens.
Already some standout tracks, and a fantastic closer.
Not as instant as the last two albums for me, but itâs still a great listen. I enjoy their musical output so much!
Hello (probably) old friend.
Metric will always be a Very Special Band to me, the one that opened my world up to indie rock back in 2004, but⊠I kind of hate this record. Tremolo is like my least favorite thing theyâve ever done.
I only skimmed this thread before listening earlier and saw that someone compared a song to Taylor, so I kept bracing myself for thatâŠbut I heard nothing that reminded me of her?
I need another listen. It washed over me but I remember different parts standing out. I liked Tremolo, ope.
This album does sound like them on autopilot somewhat (I actually think Tremolo is the most interesting thing on here ddd). But every album since Pagans in Vegas has felt patchy to me in some way, personally.
Listened to this while exercising so I definitely plan to listen with more intent the second time but this almost reminds me of Pagans in Vegas but without any of the higher highs like Cascades, For Kicks, and so forth?
Havenât felt massively passionate about anything theyâre done since Art of Doubt though, honestly.
dd hi!! i do remember your username from that old forum⊠Mine was âhystericredcoatâ or something. Couldnât tell you why! Quirked up indie teen era for sure. I watched the Live It Out Live DVD constantly, cherished my bootlegs of GUABA / Cut in Half and Also Double, and painted a Chuck Close-inspired portrait of Emily for my HS art class⊠I was down bad!
My first & worst cases of Demoitis <3:
(+ the âCupid & Psycheâ version of Sick Muse!)
Iâve perhaps conflated my own cringe at my teenaged standom with my feelings about their music.
I think I remember seeing that painting!!!
That Hey Play This show was sooo good, Iâve still got the bootleg audio from it somewhere. (Standing In Line was my favorite from that âeraâ for sure, and this one time, I got a cease and desist from the band because I maybe kind of sort of leaked the demo. Oops.)
Also hell yes to Cupid Vs. Psyche. Iâm still a little bitter they changed the chorus.
