‘Pinky Up’ has grown on me massively but I miss Manon. ![]()
I miss her too but I think they work better as a 5 piece.
I cannot get over how slick the dancing and live singing is with these girls.
I heard it properly for the first time on the radio the other day and it’s…fine. It’s not going to solidify them as a pop force.
They need meatier music now to push them to the next level.
I really like Manon, she oozes charisma but I think they’ll be fine if she chooses not to return.
initially, i thought katseye would showcase a versatile approach by introducing songs in different styles, reinforcing their “all-rounder” identity. their last two releases, however, suggest that hybe is opting for brainrot-as-a-music approach for these girls.
it would be wrong to call pinky up a bad song, but katseye is a group capable of offering more than just fast-paced songs that blend mario kart, jump, and tiktok. also, even though they’re able to be successful as a five-member group, manon’s absence is clearly felt.
I have literally nothing to contribute to this thread other than finding out I’ve been friends with Megan’s brother for over a decade and it only just recently came up in a conversation as he was venting about how rough it is having a semi famous sister
Pinkys up amongst other things!
I love the girls and I’ll keep on supporting - they deserve to properly get started with their debut.
Eh, I think they did try and do that with the last EP. Gnarly/Gabriela/Gameboy each have a different vibe. Internet Girl wasn’t a real single, just a throwaway release they had lying around to tie fans over. I wouldn’t expect the next single to have a Pinky Up “TikTok brainrot” vibe, they’ll probably go back to the Gabriela direction with something more capital P pop for radio.
Like, obviously, I love Gnarly and the more aggressive nonsense but they do need like some more substantial songs. People writing specifically for them.
Manon has followed the president of Capital records (label under the same parent company as Geffen) on IG. Not sure this means anything other than she is talk to them, but there is speculation she might be moving labels.
Also, her episode of Germany’s Next top Model is airing on May 14.
Capitol is under UMG, which essentially operates as one large label and was already KATSEYE’s label. They work with a lot of the same people under Hybe/Geffen/Interscope/Capitol already.
Touch has debuted on the UK singles chart this week at # 88.
That truly is pop justice!
‘Touch’ has the vibe of a song that will go viral every 2 years for the next decade or so
The fact that Touch had a middle 8 and they cut it…
Wait for real?
I think someone said so in the old place…I think it was mentioned by one of them in an interview. Google is yielding nothing.
I am still obsessed with Pinky up, though it doesn´t come close to Gnarly.
What makes them so good is that they kind of embrace the absurdity of tiktok/internet culture and just deliver. The choreos, the stupid lyrics…just too good.
But as I said over at pj - they need to get another song writting by Alice Longyu Gao.
(Having my first post in the Katseye thread feels more than correct.)
I wonder if HYBE has ever been in a position like this with a member like Manon. I’ve clearly seen what’s gone down with NewJeans but this seems unique to that. I just want an official statement at this point to clear the air.
