It’s really tickling my Phoebe Bridgers’ Motion Sickness nerve.
I need to make some kind of playlist with these 2 songs as the theme.
This has such a comforting, classic feel to it. Clearly an attempt to edge more into a country/Americana direction, which isn’t surprising based on the last tour, but it also doesn’t come across like it’s completely abandoning the sound of Calico or the previous albums.
The video is great too!

I really liked Calico, but I much preferred the arrangement of these live versions so hoped the next album would be heading in this direction.

Was curious what this era was going to bring. His first three albums are all very different from each other, but he seemed to really hone his sound and direction with Calico that I had a feeling that this album wouldn’t be as much of a departure as Calico was to Dreaming of David, and so on.
This retains enough of what made Calico special while also still feeling like a good progression and step in a new direction for this album, and makes me even more hyped for an album I was already hyped for. The horns and harmonica in the back half of the song really help it explode into something euphoric and special and almost cinematic.
