Does this feel a bit like when you go to one of those weddings where there is an unconscionably long gap between the ceremony and the start of the reception (because the wedding party is taking pictures or some shit like that) and everyone is at a loss for what to do with themselves and ultimately ends up at the nearest bar, guaranteeing that the reception is an absolute shitshow before it even gets started? Should we prepare for mess?
Good to know, I thought that was a mistake on our end. And the asterisks around your name were indeed there due to the empty space, that is now fixed so you won’t feel special anymore.
The only way is up!
Who’s ready for the Aussie-friendly part for the reveals?
(we’re continuing as soon as I finish my own commentary ahdjskjfkg)
Let me use this break to tell that I discovered my entry, Dara, during my UK Ladies Not #1s of the 90s rate. Billie Piper covered one of her album tracks.
So…
Well I was just very confused thanks to:
- not remembering I was in the RETRO thread
- never remembering who sent what entry once the WSW list comes out
- thinking that you meant Dara from Eurovision
- seeing the 1996 album release date and wondering why Dara’s album would be listed as coming out 2 years before she was born
- generally being old and feeble

This Dara (Rolins) is from Slovakia and that was her only album in English apparently. My Slovakian friends tell me that she’s like an eastern European Paula Abdul of some sorts. And that these days she’s more famous for divorces and plastic surgeries.
If this was her only album in English - Pourquoi choisir queue chose de ça, ma sœur??
Because Slovakian language entries tend to do very well in here, I’m sure.
On my ballot - they 99% of the time will do better than English! XD
Okay let’s do this!

Finally, here are my votes:
12 points - Split Mirrors - The Right Time
~ Loved this right away and then grew on me further, totally sounds like it could’ve been a big hit at the time.
10 points - Aud Wilken - Tired Hangs The Head
~ This sounds so much more modern compared to the rest. One of the most 00s-sounding Retro entries ever, I had to triple check its release date. A lovely song at that.
8 points - Green Ice - Gigolo
~ Amazing Italodisco boppery!
7 points - Dara Rolins - I See You There
~ A really pretty R&B/pop tune that I fear could end up overlooked.
6 points - Peter & Sloane - Besoin de rien, envie de toi
~ A cheesy 80s type of bop that works really well, it sounds like an Eurovision hit from that era.
5 points - Fangoria - Electricistas
~ Great production and vibe here, I didn’t even know this duo had eligible songs for this contest.
4 points - Amber - One More Night (Hani Radio Edit)
~ As expected, a catchy bop from Amber.
3 points - Trina & Tamara - Joanne
~ So cool how this is like an R&B version of “Jolene”, very nice smooth song.
2 points - Jacqui Brookes - Lost Without Your Love
~ Those synthy parts are great in particular.
1 point - Candy - Bel Me… OOH WEE OOH!
~ Very cute and summery.
Honourable mentions:
White Noise - The Visitation
~ Clearly not something I’d return to but love the journey of it all and a great showcase of pre-computerized electronic music.
Scotch - Mirage (La Luna)
~ Catchy and fun chorus here.
Layla - Find Love
~ A nice 90s bop.
AK Akemi Kakihara - Blue Apple
~ Really nice production, wish the melodies were stronger.
Bal Paré - Palais D’Amour
~ Cool soundscape.
Jerome Stocks - Baby I Need Your Lovin’
Xuxa - Luna de Cristal
Blue Gas - Shadows from Nowhere
Regards,
Maki
Things are going ok for me so far but hopefully more points are to come!
I wanted to try something a little different and risky but also something that would be appealing to people with it’s almost Tina Turner-esque sound which is why I went with Mirala Miralo. And it also gave me the chance to enter a major artist from Mexico who I have known about all my life.
For those of you unfamiliar with her, Alejandra Guzmán is a major figure in Mexican music but also Latin music as a whole. She goes by many titles including La Guzmán but also…The Queen of Hearts, The Diva of Rock and most importantly, The Queen of Rock.
Be sure to check out more of her material if you enjoyed Mirala, Miralo!
For now I will share a well known live performance of hers.
